Manchester United fans comment on draw vs West Ham
The following comments were posted by Manchester United fans on our busy United vs West Ham feed in the wake of the result.
One reader made his feelings clear that he liked the team’s resolve in difficult circumstances – but wanted Benjamin Sesko to have been brought on earlier.
“West Ham had 10 men behind the ball so it was always going to be difficult, Nuno set his team up to frustrate United & try & nick a goal on the break a typical scenario when you’re fighting relegation, bringing Sesko on worked wonders for me.
“He should have started or come on at half time, I was happy with a point but the game was there for the taking.”
Another fan voiced agreement that goalscorer Sesko should have been introduced ahead of the 69th minute.
“Playing the same team I think was the right call, without hindsight. Think he needs to start bringing subs on earlier, Sesko deserved more after recent performances and he got us out of jail again.”
And a further message praised Michael Carrick for getting it right with his changes: “Good substitutions, trying everything to win the game against a difficult west ham who set up well, and tested us.”
Benjamin Sesko is averaging a goal every 48 minutes over his last six appearances
Should Sesko be starting more games for United?
Manchester United ‘looked flat’
It was great that Michael Carrick was able to save the game with his substitutions in the second half, but should he have needed to?
United were very uninspired in the first half, perhaps feeling the effects of playing a second game in four days.
West Ham’s defensive test posed a problem that United will need to try and unlock in a similar upcoming away fixture against Everton.
One fan wrote: “We need to break down defensive setups better to create chances. The first half was dire for that reason and the forwards were invisible.
“Great defensive performances from Martinez Maguire and Yoro. Mainoo and Casemiro were also great. Sesko should have been on sooner great goal.”
Another fan posted: “My God we did look flat footed at times, in this game. Fresh legs were needed earlier in second half.
“So many players were off, and this summer we need some younger players in areas that it really shows we are lacking speed and technical ability.”
Another supporter voiced his own frustration with Casemiro’s goal being ruled offside by a kneecap, posting: “VAR needs to be removed from football.”
