Manchester United earned a hard fought win over Luton Town at the weekend thanks to a Victor Lindelof winner.
In recent years Manchester United fans have become strangely accustomed to being put to the sword by the club’s former academy players.
Josh King at Bournemouth and more recently Danny Welbeck with Brighton are among those to have come back to haunt the Red Devils.
At the weekend it was Tahith Chong who had a chance to follow suit, when he visited Old Trafford for the first time as an opposition player since his 2022 exit.
Fortunately Manchester United were able to keep Chong and his Luton side quiet, also featuring defensive talent Teden Mengi.
Tahith Chong message to Manchester United fans
Tahith Chong was pleased with the reception he received from Manchester United supporters, and also praised the Luton fans.
Chong sent a message on Instagram Stories, writing: “Just wanted to say thank you to the United fans for the reception and a big compliment to our fans for the support during and after the final whistle. Thank you.”
Chong was a second half substitute in Luton’s defeat, with the newly promoted side giving a good account of themselves and pushing Manchester United right to the end.
Luton boss praises Manchester United
Luton manager Rob Edwards was respectful of Manchester United’s performance in talking up his own team’s efforts.
Edwards told the Hatters’ official website: “It was harder to break United down later in the game as they got more players behind the ball, we just needed to find moments in the game at the right times and create some chances.
“I saw a determination, a steel, a grit about us in that first half, we rode our luck once or twice.”
Manchester United are up to sixth place in the Premier League table, while Luton are in 18th place.
