Casemiro has picked his two favourite goals for Manchester United so far.

Casemiro proved to be one of Erik ten Hag’s most significant signings during his first season in charge at Manchester United.

The club did come in for some criticism after spending £60m on a player in his 30s but the Brazilian soon went about proving his worth.

Casemiro developed a dynamic partnership with Christian Eriksen in the middle of the park that was the driving force behind United’s up-turn in results.

United went on to end their trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup and managed to qualify for the Champions League.

It likely would not have happened if not for Casemiro’s influence and his crucial goals.

Casemiro has been an unexpected source of goals since his move with 11 so far, as well as eight assists, and now he has picked his two favourites.

“Whenever you play and whenever you score for United, a team as great as this one, it’s very rewarding,” Casemiro told United’s in-house media.

“But considering the match’s importance, the one against Newcastle is the most important.

“It was a difficult match. It was a final. It was a very important match for us. That one was surely the most important.

“Of course, the most stunning one was against Bournemouth, an away match.

“That was also an important goal. We won that game 1-0, which helped us finish in the top four.”

How long will Casemiro remain crucial?

Casemiro was never renowned for his goal-scoring at Real Madrid. In 336 games for Los Blancos, he bagged 31 times.

That’s an average of a goal every 10.8 games, whereas at United he’s currently averaging one in every 6.2.

However, it remains to be seen if Casemiro will remain so important to the side for much longer.

The 32-year-old’s performance levels have dropped considerably this season, he has spent a significant chunk of time out injured and is no longer a regular starter.

The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo is quickly making Casemiro obsolete but, if he can help the teenager develop his game, then he will still have a very crucial role to play.
