Steve Bruce gives verdict on Erik ten Hag future at Manchester United, and he’s spot on

Manchester United are back to losing ways, having fallen short against Copenhagen.

It was a really tough night for the Red Devils, who were actually really unlucky in the Danish capital. Two goals from Rasmus Hojlund put Erik ten Hag‘s side well in the ascendency, that was until Marcus Rashford was sent off.

Then the game went pear-shaped. Copenhagen made it to 2-2 before Bruno Fernandes remarkably put the 10-man Red Devils back in front.

But two late strikes ultimately gave the Danish Superliga champions the win on the night.

Steve Bruce on Erik ten Hag

Steve Bruce took to the Football Daily podcast to discuss the match and ultimately was asked about Ten Hag, more so as to whether he’s capable of managing Manchester United.

“Look I think we’ve gotta stop talking about the manager having to change,” he begins.

“They’ve had five different managers in the last decade. Big managers, big names. Haven’t got it quite right for whatever reason.

“Ten Hag needs to be given time. They’ve had horrendous injuries, he’ll be aware of that. In the performances I’ve seen, over the past couple of weeks in particular, Fulham and today (Copenhagen), you couldn’t say that they didn’t give it everything they had.

“I still think it’s very, very premature to be talking about Ten Hag. He hasn’t had a good start this time, he’s been hit by injuries to big players, so I think we should all stay behind him because as we saw last year he’s capable of doing the job.”

Bruce hits the nail on the head

We agree with Bruce. Ten Hag needs time at Manchester United.

If you look over the past couple of months, some of the things that have happened to United are issues that not even 1 per cent of football clubs have to deal with.

Ten Hag has had to juggle player issues, injuries, investigations, a takeover process – you name it.

Still, he’s managed to retain composure in bleak circumstances and is slowly finding his feet again.

He gave us some of the best recent memories as a United fan last season, the least we can do is give him some leeway until he figures out the current mess.
