Sofyan Amrabat was certainly impressive during his first start for the Red Devils during their comfortable 3-0 win in the Carabao Cup.
The Moroccan started at left-back for United in a surprising decision made by Erik ten Hag before the game but it certainly paid off.
The midfielder had a 96% pass completion rate, won 5 out of his 6 ground duels and had 92 touches of the ball in a truly dominant display.
Amrabat joined the club on transfer deadline day on loan from Fiorentina but that deal will become permanent if United activate the option in the loan to sign the midfielder on a permanent deal.

Steve Bruce’s praise
Former United defender Steve Bruce was on Sky Sports’ coverage of the Carabao Cup and he seemed very impressed by the midfielder who, alongside Casemiro, added a steely edge to the team which has been so desperately needed.
“He’s got that stature about him. You look at him walking and think ‘this fella’s got something’,” Bruce said when he was asked about his thoughts on the Moroccan midfielder.
It certainly seems the midfielder was a wise decision made by Ten Hag and the fact United completed the deal as a loan with an option to buy is a plus.
Ten Hag on Amrabat
The former Ajax manager certainly deserves praise for his decision to bring the midfielder into the club and Amrabat seems to be repaying that faith.
“He’s a player that will give the team what they need. He gives quality, energy and a dynamic to the team,” the Dutch manager said when speaking to Sky Sports following the dominant win at Old Trafford.
Amrabat could well be the most important signing made by the club this summer as the 2022 World Cup star offers tenacity, ball retention and leadership to a team seriously lacking in exactly that.
