Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood made his La Liga debut on Sunday for Getafe.
Mason Greenwood was considered too toxic for Manchester United, in the end, despite the club exploring the idea of bringing him back.
Spanish club Getafe took a different view when they struck a late transfer deadline day deal with Manchester United to sign him on a season long loan.
He has already made his debut for Getafe, his first appearance since his arrest in January 2022.

What happened on Mason Greenwood debut for Getafe
It was a little surprising Mason Greenwood was even in the Getafe squad, given his lack of training and match action. However, Getafe are enamoured with him and were keen to get him involved quickly.
Greenwood came off the bench in the 77th minute with their tie with Osasuna poised at 2-2. Greenwood helped swing the game in their favour.
He won a corner when his shot at goal was blocked and Getafe went onto score a 86th minute winner from the ensuring set piece.

Sky News reported there was heavy chanting from Osasuna supporters targeting Greenwood.
Spanish media reaction to Mason Greenwood
The Spanish press covered Mason Greenwood’s Getafe debut and were positive about his impact.
Newspaper AS ran the headline: “Greenwood turns the Coliseum into a party,” before adding, ‘The Englishman debuted in the 77th minute and won over the crowd with his quality’.
The report added: “The 21-year-old English prodigy, whom Manchester United has sent to Getafe to serve under Bordalás, left an imprint of his quality from the first second. “
There was also note of some of the rough treatment he could receive from defenders, “He also knew what awaits him as a virtuoso: infamous kicks like the one Iker Muñoz gave him from behind. If the boy redirects his attitude and focuses only on playing, the Coliseum is going to be one of the most fun stadiums in Spain.”
Mundo Deportivo focused on the chants against Greenwood, describing it as a ‘sad incident’ which could receive punishment from the Spanish football authorities.
Getafe manager verdict
Getafe manager Jose Bordalas spoke effusively about the 21-year-old’s return to football, and also tried to temper early expectations.
He told Mundo Deportivo: “He has pleasantly surprised us. He has helped the team, he has been very supportive, but we work with him with patience and calmness. He has not played for many months and I suppose it must have been a special day for him. It is a satisfaction to feel like a footballer and we have seen the response from the fans, his teammates and himself.
“It requires a period of adaptation and you have to be calm with it. The participation has been notable and I am left with the expectations it generates. It will be positive for Getafe and for Spanish football.”
