Tahith Chong made his long awaited Manchester United debut against Reading.
The 19-year-old came off the bench with United 2-0 up at home to the Royals after goals from Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku.
Chong showed some bright touches, and helped United see out the game for a two goal victory.
The debut was not illuminated with a goal or assist, but it was valuable experience for the young winger, who has been dominant at youth level this season.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was impressed with the Dutchman’s efforts.
Speaking the club’s official website he gave his assessment of Chong’s debut.
Solskjaer said: ““He did two or three good things, he got the crowd going, he is exciting. He had a bad injury [in the past], but he has come into the team and he is coming good.
“You don’t run the game as a 19-year-old in your first appearance, but he got 30 minutes and I think he showed a few glimpses of what he can do, he certainly has in training.
Solskjaer continued: “The game wasn’t won, it was only 2-0, so it was about going out there to perform. It was not like it was 4-0 and a party, so he did well defensively as well.
“I think he will remember this game for a long, long time.”
Chong did not really do enough to play himself into Solskjaer’s plans for the big game against Spurs next weekend.
He might though get another United chance later in the FA Cup, especially if there is another favourable home draw.
Chong has a big future at Old Trafford, and today was just the start. Fans in attendance will be able to say they saw him get started.
