Solskjaer must seize late opportunity to play Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood
The time for waiting is over. There is no sense in Manchester United holding back Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood any longer.
United’s chances of finishing in the top four look bleak after gaining only one point from the last three games.
Marcus Rashford looks like he needs a break, so too does Romelu Lukaku.
Mason Greenwood needs to start up front against Huddersfield Town.
Greenwood has been terrific at youth level this season. He has made his debut under Solskjaer, but not had any starts so far.
The Mirror claimed Solskjaer was ‘seriously considering’ starting Greenwood against City last week. He didn’t, and may regret it.
Either way, it’s time he got his chance. United will learn a lot more now than in pre-season.
Mason Greenwood is not the only youngster United who needs a chance this weekend.
Winger Tahith Chong is on the cusp of the first team, and made his debut back in January.
Since then his lack of chances has been underwhelming. It’s not too late.
United need a winger next season and Chong deserves a shot to show what he can do.
That means a proper chance with two starts, not 15 minutes at the end of a game where United have little to play for.
Chong and Greenwood could save United millions in the transfer market this summer if they are promoted to become regulars.
United can’t make that decision without the facts at hand.
Solskjaer has already missed an opportunity to give them more chances so far, but it’s not too late to change course.
