Solskjaer impressed with Eric Bailly, but injury strikes
Eric Bailly returned for Manchester United against Chelsea and suffered a knee injury.
Bailly’s performance encapsulated his United career to date.
He started well, and immediately looked an upgrade on Phil Jones.
Then his reckless/unlucky streak struck, and he was injured diving into a tackle.
Bailly had to be helped off and his season is now over.
Solskjaer told the United website: “He will need a scan tomorrow but I don’t think it is the worst knee injury you can have. I don’t think we will see him again before next season.
“But he is a warrior, he played well today, he was calm, he was composed and it was just unfortunate that he had to come off.”
Bailly has failed to get a run in the United team under Solskjaer, partly due to injuries.
Fitness problems have plagued his United career since signing for £30 million from Villarreal, and caused him to lose momentum.
He may end up staying put at United by default if he remains injured through past the August transfer window.
Solskjaer appeared to be impressed with his performance, with his comments afterwards encouraging towards the defender.
Bailly has more talent than Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. Next season if he stays, he will face more serious competition from potential new signings.
Someone really should have told Eric Bailly that dying his hair like Wes Brown would result in an injury #mufc
