Sofyan Amrabat says he is enjoying playing alongside one Man Utd star in particular

Sofyan Amrabat made his much anticipated first start for Manchester United since his move from Fiorentina on the final day of the summer transfer window.

The Moroccan midfielder started at left-back for the Red Devils but this eventually led to the former FC Utrecht midfielder moving alongside Casemiro in the pivot role.

The midfielder joined the club for an initial £8 million loan fee with an option to buy Amrabat next summer for a further £20 million.

After a long summer where it seemed the deal wouldn’t happen, United finally pulled the trigger on one of Erik ten Hag’s top midfield targets for the deeper midfield position.

Amrabat and Casemiro

It’s fair to say the pair complement each other really well for the Red Devils and this could prove to be a blossoming relationship throughout the season.

Amrabat, after the superb performance he put in against Crystal Palace, spoke to the United website after the game and was very pleased to line up alongside the Brazilian midfielder.

“(I’m enjoying it) A lot. It’s clear that Casemiro is a fantastic player,” a smiling Amrabat said. “He’s one of the best midfielders in his position so it’s nice to play next to him there.”

Will the partnership blossom

When United finally announced the deal to sign the 27-year-old, the excitement was palpable about the possibility of Amrabat and Casemiro lining up alongside each other. This may have to wait, amid an injury crisis at left-back.

Yet even if Amrabat continues as a left-back, then the partnership could still work. Throughout the game against Roy Hodgson’s side, Amrabat would invert and slot in behind the former Real Madrid midfielder.

The Moroccan would move inside, sometimes alongside the centre-backs, and he would dictate the play and this would allow the Brazilian to be more comfortable going forward.

Going forward, this partnership certainly could work, especially when Amrabat moves into midfield more regularly, and the pairing could be the key to United getting back to the high standards they set themselves last season.
