Manchester United picked up another big win this time in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace and one player, in particular, stood out.
Sofyan Amrabat made his first start for the Red Devils but was deployed in a rather different role for United at Old Trafford.
The Moroccan midfielder was deployed as a left-back, whilst Diogo Dalot was at right-back. The former Fiorentina midfielder has been deployed at the position before during his days at FC Utrecht.
Amrabat starred throughout the gamem with his superb passing range setting him apart from the rest and he shone in a rather unique role.

Amrabat’s role
During the game, the midfielder would slot in alongside Casemiro at times, at other times, he would be one of the deepest players in build-up.
The midfielder’s poise on the ball and his ability to retain possession for the Red Devils was crucial, as United don’t currently have that type of profile in their midfield.
Amrabat’s role could well temporarily be at left-back in the absence of Luke Shaw and Sergio Reguilon, who seemingly suffered a hamstring injury during the win over Burnley at Turf Moor over the weekend.
Amrabat on his new role
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Amrabat defined his role and highlighted exactly what Erik ten Hag saw in him when the Dutchman decided to sign the midfielder.
“I play where I can help the team, even goalkeeper! I play for the badge,” the midfielder said after the dominant display in his first start for the club.
“I’m not at my best at the moment. I think it’s normal because of my pre-season and the injury. If you play games you will be stronger and better.”
The midfielder will likely start once again against Roy Hodgson’s side and the hope will be that the he can make the same impact as he did in the Carabao Cup, whichever position he is selected in.
