Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie believes Erik ten Hag ‘always has an excuse’ when Manchester United lose.
Erik ten Hag‘s men lost 1-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday following a last-minute Alexis McAllister penalty.
The penalty was stupidly given away by one of United’s star performers on the night, Luke Shaw. It was a blatant penalty and the Seagulls capitalised on the England international’s error.
United still find themselves in a good position, but they’ll need to bounce back quickly if they want to ensure a Champions League spot for next season.
Lee Hendrie: Ten Hag always has an excuse
Lee Hendrie believes Erik ten Hag keeps coming up with excuses for his team as they attempt to qualify for Champions League football.
Speaking today on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Hendrie had the following to say as they discussed the Red Devils’ defeat at the Amex:
“You look at the season and I felt that they were going to go and kick on. But, I tend to find there’s always an excuse.”
This was in response to Jeff Stelling stating that ten Hag was unhappy with the free-kick given in the build-up to the penalty being awarded.
“Did you think it was a free-kick?” Hendrie responded after being shown the clip. “I just think there’s always an excuse when it comes down to these sort of situations.”
The free-kick that was awarded was dubious. However – the reality of football is not every decision is going to go your way.
United simply weren’t good enough at Brighton and were lucky to even only concede once.
They need to come back a rejuvenated side against West Ham and play attacking, confident football.
No excuses.
