Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are prepared to give Erik ten Hag another season to realise his vision at Manchester United, according to reports.
The pressure has been on Erik ten Hag and Manchester United this season with the Dutchman overseeing 14 defeats in all competitions and the club already out of the Champions League, and indeed Europe all together.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos being on the verge of seeing their 25 per cent acquisition approved by the Premier League, there may well have been concerns about the Dutchman’s future.
The new owners seem keen on putting sporting performances above all and this would surely therefore put pressure on Ten Hag.
Ineos’ willingness
According to Steve Bates writing in GiveMeSport, despite the club not making a single signing in the January transfer window, due to the top-heavy nature of the squad, this does not mean Ten Hag will be replaced.
10 players were loaned out in this January transfer window, and not a single new face was brought in but despite this Ratcliffe may well be willing to give the Dutchman another season.
It is said that the former Ajax boss has had to deal with a lot of extenuating circumstances with the Mason Greenwood situation as well as the Jadon Sancho fallout.
Another aspect in his favour, according to the report, is how the Dutchman has handled the academy side of the team with Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho key cogs for Ten Hag’s side.
The uncertainty about the takeover situation has also not aided Ten Hag’s time at the club and these are circumstances that Ratcliffe is sympathetic towards.
Ten Hag’s future
With over three months left of the season, the Dutchman may well be on his last chance saloon but the Red Devils have looked better in recent weeks.
The 4-3 win over Wolves was hectic but they did show positive signs in the first half, and the 3-0 win over West Ham United was a much more assured performance.
If the Red Devils can win the FA Cup or somehow break into the top four, the Dutchman should be given a third season in charge.
