Sir Jim Ratcliffe made his presence known at Old Trafford attending Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham.

Manchester United could not secure all three points against Tottenham on Sunday. A victory would have been a well-timed win to coincide with Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s first attendance at Old Trafford since the investment was announced.

It was probably quite apt that United failed to get the job done. Ratcliffe could see the team’s flaws for himself, and step up his plot to try and take the club forward.

The billionaire was spotted alongside Sir Alex Ferguson in the crowd, who was no doubt imparting his own pearls of wisdom to the club’s new investor.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe on Manchester United plans

Sir Jim Ratcliffe posed for selfies with supporters at full-time and was welcomed by Manchester United supporters.

He is seen as a ‘man of action’ who intends to improve the club he supports, and making his presence felt early was a big statement of intent.

Ratcliffe’s Ineos plan to have a constant presence at Old Trafford and Ineos, a stark contrast to the Glazer family.

Quoted by The Athletic, Ratcliffe was asked whether he would attend every single game, and didn’t wish to make a promise he might not be able to stick to.

He responded that he plans to attend games ‘quite a lot’, but not ‘all the time because I have a few other things to manage’.

Ratcliffe is also the CEO of petrochemical firm Ineos, which brings with it various business and industry commitments, and his firm also hold a controlling stake in French side Nice.

Positive signs for Manchester United

The Glazer family have shown disinterest over the past 20 years, and have not once attempted to change the narrative around their ownership, running the club remotely from America.

Ratcliffe spoke to the press before the game, detailing that he expects the investment to be formally signed off in a few weeks time, and also pledged to be more open about his plans for the club at a later date.

At the moment Ineos are in an information gather phase, now getting the chance to dig behind the scenes into the club they have bought into. They are fully prepared that what they find won’t be too pretty.
