Manchester United have been linked with a move Luis Campos being discussed.
The recent appointment of Christopher Vivell has shown how seriously Manchester United are taking the recruitment side of the club.
Former interim boss Ralf Rangnick recently pointed out how this has been the cause of United’s problems.
Whether United are looking to add another new face to support and lead Vivell and Jason Wilcox is yet to be determined, with the duo’s reponsibility at the club growing since Dan Ashworth’s exit.
Late on May 4, Sacha Tavolieri reported Campos is holding talks with Manchester United to join the club.
However, these claims were subsequently denied by Fabrizio Romano, who claimed there are no talks with the Red Devils.
Romano reported: “Luis Campos attracting interest from several clubs but NO talks/negotiations with Man United.”
Manchester United history with Luis Campos
There is quite a lot to unpack here with the Luis Campos links, which have also been denied via other sources.
Luis Campos actually expressed interest about joining Manchester United way back in 2019, when the club were still hesitant to actually appoint a sporting director, and Ed Woodward still ran day to day operations.
Campos, then at Lille, stated: “Manchester United is an amazing club with an amazing story; it’s difficult to understand what has happened.
“Of course I believe I could help Manchester United. I want to work with a big club one day. I am happy here, so only a special situation will make me change a project.”
Manchester United lacked the nous back then to bring Campos aboard, eventually hiring John Murtough internally to be the club’s sporting director in 2021.
Now in 2025, United are still undoing some of the mistakes of the Murtough era, while Campos went to PSG, and has plotted their post-Kylian Mbappe overhaul, after some earlier mis-steps.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos took over football operations at United in late 2023 and have been putting their stamp on the club.
Initially this came with the appointment of Dan Ashworth – who was stunningly fired after a few months, amid differences in opinion on strategy.
Ineos were subsequently tipped to follow Luis Campos’ situation at PSG, with Ratcliffe a known admirer.
Back in 2022, one year before Ratcliffe’s takeover was approved, French outlet Le Parisien claimed the billionaire was interested in hiring Luis Campos as Manchester United’s sporting director.
Campos’ stock has only risen since, showing he can deliver at a big club with expectations like PSG, although his future there remains unclear.

PSG already have replacement lined up
The chances of Campos departing PSG are very real, with the enigmatic recruitment chief yet to commit his future to the club.
Goal report succession planning is already rapidly underway, with a replacement for Campos already identified.
PSG are looking to appoint Antero Henrique, who was the sporting director at the club between 2017 and 2019 and is still highly regarded internally.
This would make it easier for Manchester United to land Campos, if there was a desire – but at present it really is not expected that the Red Devils are looking to overcomplicate the existing structure.
Given the history of Ratcliffe’s admiration for Campos, and his previous expressed interest in working at United, it would not be a surprise if this changed, but at present a move is not actively happening.
