Rory McIlroy has admitted he would be open to the opportunity of investing in Manchester United and has welcomed the imminent change of ownership.
The Northern Irish golfer, who is a Manchester United fan, has recently acquired a minority stake in Formula 1 team Alpine so naturally the question has become whether he would be interested in the Red Devils.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority investment in United is set to be ratified soon and the United fan has welcomed the change of the guard after nearly 20 years of Glazer ownership.
And it seems that Mcllroy would certainly be interested in a stake in the club.

Speaking to the Irish examiner, the golfer, who helped Europe win the Ryder Cup two weeks ago, would be incredibly keen on investing in his boyhood club.
“I would love to be able to own a tiny percentage of the club I grew up cheering on as a boy,” Mcllroy admitted. “I would have loved to have taken 0.00001 per cent of Manchester United when Jim Ratcliffe took 25 per cent.
“And if another opportunity comes my way I will look at it. But it is not something that has come across our table as of yet.
“Sir Jim has got a great track record and everybody that does support United should be excited by the possibilities if they give him full sporting authority and decisions for the club. As a fan I am excited.”
Mcllroy to follow Brady’s lead
Tom Brady recently invested in Birmingham City and the Midlands club have appointed former United forward Wayne Rooney into the hot seat in a controversial decision.
Well, Mcllroy’s investment would surely not mean he would hold any gravitas in decision-making but it would be a smart decision for the golfer.
United fans are hoping that Ratcliffe’s investment in the club will be completed soon and end the nightmare under the American family.
