Sam Homewood opens the lid on his memorable interactions with Sir Alex Ferguson from working at Manchester United as a presenter for MUTV.

It goes without saying that Sam Homewood loves his job.

As a Manchester United fan and top presenter, many will say Homewood has the dream job. That is not something he would disagree with.

I recently caught up with Homewood to hear his stories about working at United and being a regular around Carrington.

Homewood explained what shocked him about Casemiro and how Odion Ighalo left him in hysterics on the official United podcast.

Who is Manchester United’s best manager since Sir Alex Ferguson?

It was clear with each story that this is a lad who loves every minute of his job, whether it’s commentating on games, interacting with legends, or simply being around the club.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of the conversation stemmed from the tales Homewood shared about his interactions with former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sam Homewood reflects on moments with Sir Alex Ferguson

After spending many years working at United, Homewood has had multiple interactions with Ferguson.

The greatest manager of all time had retired by the time Homewood began working at MUTV, but that hasn’t stopped Ferguson from being a regular at Old Trafford.

Homewood explains how Ferguson reflected on his podcast questions only to call them ‘rubbish’, proving the greatest moment in the presenter’s career to date.

Speaking exclusively to United In Focus, Homewood said: “The best time was when we were playing Leicester, and I got to Old Trafford really early, and I just sat in the stand, because I love just sitting in the stadium when it’s all empty on a match day before anything’s happening.

“I’m just sitting there. And then, over the corner of my eye, I turn and just standing there is Sir Alex Ferguson, and he’s doing an interview with BBC Sport.

“They’re taking some pictures of him, but while they’re sorting stuff out, he’s just standing there, and I’m just looking at him. And then he catches my eye, and then he’s looking at me. And then, naturally, you would look away in that instance.

“You would just like to go, because that’s what you’re supposed to do. But I couldn’t not look at him. It was like this beam of golden light, and I just stared at it. And eventually, he acknowledged this is happening because it just got weird. It’s just me staring at him. And he goes, he looks at me, and he says, ‘You ask some ridiculous questions in that podcast.’

“It was one of the greatest moments of my life because it meant he’s watched the podcast. He knows I’m the guy from the podcast, and he thinks I’m ridiculous.”

Man Utd icon Sir Alex Ferguson perfectly captures the ethos of believing in youngsters 🔥👏

Giving young people an opportunity is a fantastic thing and they very seldom let you down. These lads never let me down when they put that jersey on.

Sam Homewood recorded a podcast with Sir Alex Ferguson

Homewood was on the panel of hosts when Ferguson appeared on the official United podcast.

It went on for over two hours and proved to be an episode Homewood will never forget.

He added: “We did a two-hour podcast with him.

“We sat down and just chatted. The podcast itself is really fun, but the joy of, and the build-up to it where you just sat and you’re talking, and you’re waiting for it. And then when you’re finished and you just sort of talking to it, oh yeah, that was interesting. Oh, that was funny, so I hadn’t heard that before, et cetera. And you’re just talking, it was brilliant.

“Then a few times, because I’d be like moving around Old Trafford with someone like Wes Brown, you just see him, and then Wes will stop to say hello, and you just sort of end up in the conversation.

“Genuinely fantastic.”
