Sir Alex Ferguson offered a hilarious response when asked if Tottenham Hotspur will ever win the Premier League title.
Manchester United, under Sir Alex Ferguson’s tutelage, won 13 Premier League titles and the Red Devils could have easily won more. The club lost multiple titles by a single point or, in the 2011/2012 season, by goal difference.
One team who never really caused issues for Ferguson’s side was Tottenham Hotspur, with the North London side never really posing a title-challenging threat to the Red Devils and United even had a habit of taking their best players.
United produced memorable comebacks against the London side including coming back from three goals down in 2001 and winning 5-3.
Ferguson’s hilarious response
Speaking on Sky Sports News at a racing event, the famous Scotsman was asked whether Spurs, under Ange Postecoglou, have a chance of winning the Premier League.
Ferguson simply replied “no” before bursting out into a fit of laughter.
This season, the North London side have had something of a renaissance under the Australian with the Lilywhites currently sitting in fourth place, seven points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Ferguson’s infamous Spurs team talk
During half-time of the 2001 game against Spurs, when the Red Devils were three goals down, Ferguson delivered a three-word verdict about the credibility of the Tottenham side which has come to show the mental strength of the London side.
“Lads, it’s Spurs,” the Scotsman said to his United contingent at half-time of the game at White Hart Lane, as per the Manchester Evening News. United, as mentioned, did turn the game around to win 5-3 against the London club.
Dimitar Berbatov signed from Tottenham on deadline day back in 2008 when it looked like City had won the race for the Bulgarian forward.
United and Tottenham have had a tetchy relationship since then and there’s no surprise the Scotsman has delivered such a damning verdict.
