However, the season wasn’t all sunshine and wins with the first half of the season in particular being turbulent.
But now it’s been revealed that the season wasn’t turbulent before it even began as Sir Alex Ferguson almost made what would have been a massive mistake.

Sir Alex Ferguson almost resigned before winning the treble at Manchester United
Speaking on the new 99 documentary on Amazon Prime, the former chairman talked about the summer before the treble win by United and revealed that Sir Alex actually resigned.
He explained that the club had to correct Sir Alex over his outside-of-football activities and ensure he was focused on football, as he became a celebrity.
“It was a correction. I put it in writing and I knew he wouldn’t be happy about it, and he wasn’t. He offered his resignation which I thought I had to accept.”
When told this in the documentary, Gary Neville admitted he’d never heard this before and couldn’t believe it.

“The manager? I would like to have that conversation with him. I didn’t even know that until today.”
But luckily for United, Sir Alex had a change of heart, as Edwards then explained.
“Later on that day he rang me back to say he was withdrawing his resignation and it was never mentioned again after that.”
Sir Alex will be delighted he didn’t resign
While he probably felt it right at the time, looking back now, Sir Alex will absolutely be glad he didn’t end up resigning.
If he had, he’d have missed out on the best season of his career, and also the double which was achieved in 2008.
Without Sir Alex, United likely wouldn’t have been anywhere near the club that it is today and considering what has transpired since the Scot retired, it might’ve actually gone very wrong and there might not even be such glory around the Class of 92‘.
Selfishly, we’re all glad he didn’t resign either as it would’ve been a massive error, thankfully he saw sense.
