Bruno Fernandes has been raving about 19-year-old Joao Neves while on international duty amid Manchester United interest.

While on international duty with Portugal, Bruno Fernandes has been been having a great time.

Two assists and qualification secured for next summer’s European Championship’s in the first game of the break.

However, Fernandes has also been on media duty and discussed his eagerness to continue playing for Portugal as he nears his 30’s.

Speaking with Noticias ao Minuto, Fernandes admitted that the youngsters are beginning to worry him for his place. In this he named Manchester United target Joao Neves.

“When I arrived, we had players from a few years ago who had a place marked by what they were doing in the national team. I had to conquer my space.

“I think I did it well, and now I’m having my space. I want to continue like this, and to continue like this, I have to demonstrate in all the games.

“The kids start showing up… João Neves is coming and he’s a kid who is very young. They will be younger and younger and I will be older and older, so I have to pedal to stay here.”

Joao Neves to Manchester United

Manchester United have been one of many clubs credited with having an interest in Joao Neves of Benfica. The 19-year-old has a contract which runs through until 2028. His contract has a release clause of £103 million, according to The Sun.

In August Manchester United were reported to have ‘held talks‘ over a potential move for the player, but ultimately finances got in the way.

Neves would offer Manchester United a long-term fix in midfield as he is tipped to be the worlds next best midfielder.

Fernandes giving his apparent seal of approval will only accelerate rumours of a move.
