Few would have thought it a few weeks ago, but Manchester United’s Scott McTominay should now start ahead of a far more experienced teammate.
Nemanja Matic has excelled under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, in his absence McTominay has proved his worth.
In fact, based on Sunday’s performance, Matic should be dropped in favour of the 22-year-old.
After all, the younger midfielder was outstanding against Liverpool and integral against Paris Saint-Germain. He also impressed in the Premier League double-header directly before Sunday’s crunch clash.
Matic has only recently returned from injury. But he was imply not good enough against Arsenal.
Resting McTominay after his recent heroics was understandable. Yet Solskjaer should ensure it is a rest not a change of thinking.
McTominay has not always impressed United supporters. But his recent outings cannot be ignored.
He was the Red Devils’ best midfielder in their famous Champions League victory. And he has clearly come of age under his new boss.
Matic may be a £40million player (BBC) but he does not deserve to play ahead of McTominay on current form.
