‘Sharp and interested’… BBC pundit lauds ‘exciting’ Man Utd star for saving Ten Hag vs Everton

Manchester United overcame Everton 2-0 on Saturday at Old Trafford, but the win wasn’t as impressive as it sounded.

During a fairly dull game on Saturday in the Premier League, there were two moments of brilliance from Alejandro Garnacho which ultimately won the game for Manchester United.

Garnacho lit the game up for United as he won both penalties in the 2-0 win, with a silky bit of dribbling on two occassions.

Without these two moments, given how poor United and Everton both were, it’s likely that the game wouldn’t have had a goal at all.

Now, after this game winning display from Garnacho, he’s been praised by Garth Crooks.

Alejandro Garnacho praised by Garth Crooks

After his performance in the game, the BBC Pundit, Crooks, named Garnacho in his team of the week.

“Two very badly timed tackles cost Everton this game. Does James Tarkowski or Ben Godfrey understand the perilous situation Everton find themselves and why they can’t afford to be reckless in their own box? You would have thought they’d have learnt their lessons by now.

“Meanwhile, Manchester United, having failed miserably against Fulham and not even laying a glove on Manchester City, continue to slalom their way through the season with glaring inconsistency but managed to beat Everton having been gifted two totally avoidable penalties.

“The only United player that showed any real endeavour was Garnacho. The Argentine looked sharp and interested. He was the player brought down for both infringements that cost Everton the game due to his willingness to take defenders on. Still one of the most exciting elements of the game.”

Garnacho the only light in a dark performance for Manchester United

With Erik ten Hag‘s job not safe, he needs good performances and results. But in recent weeks and months, the performance side at least just hasn’t been there.

Consistently exposed and facing a large amount of shots along with failing to grasp any real control on the game isn’t a good look for the Dutchman given how closely Ineos are likely watching.

While United have won games this year more often than not but the performances are the issue, with no sustainability and Ten Hag’s side being outplayed by even Luton Town, Fulham and Everton for most of the games.
