Sekou Kone’s promising first start for Manchester United’s under-21s was cut short by injury.

After signing for Manchester United on transfer deadline day, Sekou Kone has been patient in his wait for minutes.

United have been working with Kone behind the scenes, easing him into academy action, with two recent under-21 appearances.

On November 12, United started Kone in the under-21 fixture against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy. He lasted 42 minutes.

Sekou Kone message

Sekou Kone’s injury was unfortunate as he had been playing well, registering three interceptions, and looking comfortable against a senior team.

The 18-year-old was one of the youngest players on the pitch and did not look out of place, buzzing around in a defensive midfield role.

United conceded three goals in the second half after Kone had gone off.

Kone has since posted on Instagram, a cryptic message which does not reveal the details of his injury.

He wrote: “The risk of the job so we assume all the consequences it is God who decides everything.”

Kone injury remains unclear

Sekou Kone was injured making a tackle and hobbled off. While the incident did not look serious, he was unable to continue.

After the game, Kone was seen leaving Huddersfield’s stadium on crutches.

After seeing what happened to new signing Leny Yoro during pre-season, it would be cruel to see another promising young signing miss time with injury.

Kone’s message suggests he might miss a little time, which would be unfortunate, but he appears to be taking it in his stride.

The young midfielder can take the positives, that he played well during his brief showing, and when he is fit, he will get plenty more opportunities to settle in, during his first season of adjustment in Manchester.
