Former Manchester United scout Marcel Bout is back in the English game having secured a new role with Newcastle United.
Some United fans may remember Marcel Bout as being part of Louis van Gaal’s team at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal brought several trusted Dutchmen to United back in 2014, with Bout key among them.
The pair had worked together at Bayern Munich and in the Netherlands setup before joining forces at United.
Bout initially arrived to analyse opponents as well as do some coaching at Carrington, before becoming a scout in 2016.
Marcel Bout left Manchester United last year
Most of Van Gaal’s team – Albert Stuivenberg, Frans Hoek and Max Reckers – left the club upon Van Gaal’s exit in the summer of 2016.
Bout stayed around though, moving into a key scouting role as he became United’s ‘head of global scouting’ in 2016.
Bout only left United in 2022, bringing an end to eight years in various roles at Old Trafford.
Many will have fairly negative views on United’s recruitment during Bout’s time at the club, with a number of misses in the transfer market.
The Dutchman gave long service to United though, and will now join a Premier Leaguer rival…

Bout set to join Newcastle United
Algemeen Dagblad in Bout’s native Netherlands report that Bout is now joining Newcastle United as their new chief scout.
Bout will allegedly start his role immediately and will focus on signing players between the ages of 16 and 23.
Bout is also quoted as saying that Newcastle’s development as a club really appeals to him, and he’s happy to be back in England and the Champions League.
“I have recently come into contact with Newcastle. The steady expansion of the club appeals to me,” says Bout. “I’m also happy to be back in England and at Champions League level,” he added.
This means United may now have to battle Bout and Newcastle for new signings in the future, with a host of players no doubt on the radars of both clubs.
