Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay now looks set to stay at Old Trafford this summer despite interest in his services from Fulham.

The West London side, who looks to be losing Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich have been scouring the market for replacements.

After there was confirmation of Fulham’s interest in the Scottish midfielder from Sky Sports News, it now seems the Cottagers have moved onto a different target in case Palhinha completes the move to Munich.

According to Jason Burt, of The Telegraph, Fulham are targeting Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who was linked with United last week, as a replacement for the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder.

United’s stance on McTominay

The Old Trafford club’s stance on the midfielder is that he is likely to remain at United according to The Telegraph.

This is due to the injury issues that Erik ten Hag has had to deal with, the Scotsman provides some much-needed squad depth.

West Ham United did make an offer for the midfielder a few weeks back but United rejected it and now the midfielder is seemingly set to remain at Old Trafford.

With United reportedly closing in on the signing of Amrabat, the question will be just how much football will McTominay play this season.

Are United making a mistake

Once the injured players return, it’s hard to see where McTominay would fit into the United team. With Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Casemiro, and potentially Amrabat, McTominay won’t get game time.

United were offered £30 million for the midfielder but decided to reject it according to the Manchester Evening News and if he doesn’t feature for United, his value may well drastically drop to £15 million or £20 million.

United are taking a risk but ultimately it may well be worthwhile if the amount of injury issues continues as the season progresses.

As well as this, Harry Maguire looks set to stay at United, too. With Raphael Varane out for a ‘few’ weeks, the English defender may well be needed.
