Scott McTominay was Manchester United's bright spot in Wolves defeat
Last night’s defeat to Wolves was a sickener.
United threw away an early lead, spurning chances, and paid a heavy price.
Our top four hopes suffered a heavy blow, and there is a real possibility we will now be playing Europa League football next season.
That miserable prospect can wait for another day. Lets focus on the one positive from United’s performance, Scott McTominay.
McTominay scored United’s goal, it was his first for the club.
This was his first start since the win over PSG and he looked like a player possessed.
His strike was an excellently taken effort from outside the box, taken instinctively.
It was sign of his progress under Solskjaer that McTominay had the confidence to even shoot.
He almost made the breakthrough in the second half too, having a header saved from close range, and rising highest at a corner to narrowly head over.
McTominay had five shots in total, while Paul Pogba had just one.
The 22-year-old was one of the only United players to show some fire, and display a will to win, even if it wasn’t our night.
The prospect of McTominay starting against Barcelona is a very real possibility next week.
