Scott McTominay has returned to Manchester United training ahead of this Sunday’s upcoming fixture against Manchester City.

The midfielder had missed the last two matches against Atletico Madrid and Watford due to illness, having starred in the match against Leeds prior.

McTominay was spotted in training in this picture released by the club of Phil Jones, with McTominay, Raphael Varane and Nemanja Matic in the background.

McTominay’s bite in midfield was missed in the away tie with Atletico Madrid and he could be a key player for the second leg against the Spaniards on March 15.

First up is a match against Manchester City at the Etihad, where the Scotland international was a starter in the 2-0 victory last season.

United then face Tottenham Hotspur, before the Champions League last 16 second leg.

Working hard

United’s players are hard at work and have a full week to prepare for the City game, with a rare midweek off due to the FA Cup exit to Middlesbrough last month.

Midfielder Nemanja Matic provided an insight into the session by sharing a ‘winning team’ post, which featured fourth choice goalkeeper Lee Grant, along with Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Alex Telles and Victor Lindelof.

United are still waiting for Edinson Cavani to return from injury. The Uruguayan has missed the last five matches since the Burnley game, which has placed a lot of pressure on striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who has just one goal all year.

Ronaldo was pictured in the session in good spirits, chatting to in-form teammate Jadon Sancho.
