Scott McTominay has praised Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and his assistant coach Steve McClaren.

In an interview with the club’s official website, McTominay said that the new manager has brought a real personal touch to coaching him.

And he also hailed the appointment of former England manager McClaren, who has brought experience of English football to the coaching staff.

McTominay also hailed McClaren’s impact on morale around the place as United continue to build under the new regime.

McTominay on McClaren and Ten Hag

On Ten Hag, he said: “On tour, he asked me about my family and how they were and getting on. That was a real good touch that because I felt like I could trust him, and want to play for him, be in a team with him, where he’s pushing me.

“I obviously want to be making sure I’m doing my best for him because he’s got a real understanding about my personal life as well, which is massive in terms of a player. I’ve never really properly had that before. “[I’ve had] other bits from other coaches but I feel like he’s really, really good in that aspect.”

“In terms of man-management as well, with the other staff – Mitchell [van der Gaag], Darren Fletcher, the manager himself – we’ve got a real good group there. Steve McClaren is literally one of the best guys you can have in football because he keeps everybody alive, he keeps everyone together.

“That is so good for players, in boosting their confidence. I feel like some players needed that at the end of last season. They needed lifting and that energy bringing into the group and they’ve most definitely done that.”

Ten Hag and his staff are looking to bring the good times back to Old Trafford and they have exacting standards on how to get there.

McTominay seems to have responded to that – as well as the signing of Casemiro – with some excellent recent performances.

Now, United have to put together another good run of form after the defeat at Manchester City last time out in the Premier League.

Everton away was a game United lost under Ralf Rangnick last season and it will be a good test this time around, especially coming on the back of a European trip in midweek.
