Nicky Butt dropped a telling response to Ruben Amorim’s position on Manchester United defender Harry Amass and three more academy talents at Old Trafford.
Harry Amass has been away from Old Trafford in the 2025-26 campaign after the Manchester United teenager completed a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday.

The 18-year-old United full-back left the Premier League club on deadline day back in September and Amass has secured regular first-team opportunities this season.
Amass has made 16 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship and has netted once and picked up an assist during his spell at the Hillsborough Stadium.

Nicky Butt’s admission about Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim’s stance on Sheffield Wednesday’s Harry Amass and Co
Ruben Amorim sparked criticism from Manchester United fans over his comments about different academy talent, including Harry Amass and Kobbie Mainoo.
The 40-year-old United manager was clear-cut about his feelings on not turning to the likes of Amass, Chido Obi, Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer for the first team.
Amorim insisted that Amass had now been “struggling” in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday, while Chido Obi is “not always a starter in the Under-21s.”
Ruben Amorim believes Harry Amass and Chido Obi would not make an impact in the Man Utd first team 🤔
What do you think of Amorim's comments? Is he making a good point, or is he losing it?
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Nicky Butt admitted that the likes of Amass, Chido Obi and Toby Collyer are not equipped to play under Amorim.
“I think, if I’m honest with you, I think with them, certain ones you spoke [about], not Kobbie, but when you talk about them, they’re not ready to play for Manchester United,” he told Sam Allardyce.
“Quite simple, they’re not. But what I’d say about that is like, well, why even mention them? Because no-one’s discussed it.
“None of them players have ever come out of my mouth.”

Chido Obi has been developing in the United academy this season, while Toby Collyer has suffered a setback at West Brom earlier this month after an injury.
Kobbie Mainoo, on the other hand, has been a regular first-team starter at Old Trafford before losing his place in the United starting XI under Amorim.
Rio Ferdinand says Kobbie Mainoo HAS to leave United
Is Rio right to be honest, or should he be keeping quiet about this?
United legend Butt told former England manager Sam Allardyce that Mainoo would be the only exception out of the academy talent that Amorim recently criticised.
“Kobbie would [start for Man Utd],” he said.
“Yeah, none of those young ones. Well, no-one’s mentioned them.”
Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly keen to extend Amass’ loan spell until the end of the 2025-26 season after he has made a lasting impression during his time so far.
