The transfer window at Manchester United had become an extremely frustrating affair for the fans, but that could all be about to change.
After a deafening silence period of no news, which is as good as bad news when the rivals are making serious moves, things are beginning to change at Old Trafford.
Ahead of the all-important pre-season tour to the USA, Man Utd are aiming to accelerate their business so Ruben Amorim isn’t left stranded.
They have received two boosts now, one in the form of an injury recovery being better than expected, and its cascading effect of stars aligning for a £17m signing.

Man Utd receive Andre Onana injury boost
Amorim’s pre-season plans would have been spoiled the moment their first-choice goalkeeper, Andre Onana, picked up an injury that ruled him out of the entire pre-season.
The silver lining is that no defensive signings have been made, so communication issues should be non-existent, but team chemistry still suffers.
The injury to Andre Onana put United’s goalkeeping situation under the scanner at a time when the club had made peace with the Cameroonian being their first-choice for at least one more season.
Interest in Emi Martinez was rekindled with recent claims of the club being in concrete talks for the player coming to the fore.
However, The Mirror report that Onana’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared, with the goalkeeper looking increasingly likely to be fit for selection for the Premier League opener against Arsenal.
That will have a snowball effect on United’s chase for Martinez, since United don’t need two goalkeepers with a No. 1 pedigree.
Fabrizio Romano recently rubbished claims of club-to-club talks for Martinez, and Onana’s injury update likely ends this chase.
However, it begins another one.
Man Utd zero in on Senne Lammens
Since United aren’t looking for an immediate No. 1, and Altay Bayindir’s future is still in doubt, it leaves United with the ability to strengthen that position with a long-term view.
Enter Senne Lammens, the Belgian shot-stopper who United are ‘pushing ahead’ to sign in this transfer window in a deal worth £17m.
Lammens, at 23, is old enough to be a backup to Onana at Old Trafford, while retaining the potential upside to eventually challenge him for the No. 1 spot.
Had Onana’s injury been serious, they wouldn’t have gambled on Lammens and gone with an experienced No. 1 with Premier League pedigree in Emi Martinez.
However, with Onana’s update, United have received two boosts at the same time. Their No. 1 isn’t as badly injured as first feared, and an exciting backup upgrade with the potential to challenge him is being targeted instead of a short-term solution.
