Sporting boss Ruben Amorim claims that he has not been contacted by Manchester United with a view to replacing Erik ten Hag.
Here we go again – it’s time for Manchester United managerial rumours.
Erik ten Hag finds himself under enormous pressure having endured a frankly dismal start to the season.
3-0 defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle United have left Ten Hag clinging on and The Times claim that is on ‘thin ice’ at Old Trafford.
That report also suggested that United are already eyeing a potential replacement in Sporting boss Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim comments on Manchester United rumours
Amorim is a fascinating shout.
The 38-year-old enjoyed a meteoric rise as a manager, quickly landing the Sporting job in 2020 and winning a league title just a year later.
Amorim now sits top of the table with Sporting, dropping just two points from nine games.
Sporting were in cup action against Farense on Thursday night, claiming a fairly straight-forward 4-2 win.
Amorim was unsurprisingly asked about United after that result, telling A Bola that he has not been contacted to replace Ten Hag.
Amorim did though add that he has an idea about his future beyond the end of the season, even if he won’t share it right now.
The Portuguese coach noted that good results have landed him other jobs, seemingly keeping the door open for a Sporting exit in the near future.
“We don’t know the future,” said Amorim. “I have an idea for the end of the season, but I won’t say it. Not for now, but it has already happened in my career that results have led to other things. I have not been contacted by Manchester United,” he added.

Pep Guardiola a fan of Amorim
Like it or not, United’s fortunes will always be compared to neighbours Manchester City.
The last 10 years have seen City rise and rise whilst United struggle, unable to find a real identity on or off the pitch.
If Ten Hag loses his job, United would be looking for somebody who can challenge City and Pep Guardiola consistently.
Sorting out the off-field situation will be key to that idea but Amorim is a manager Guardiola has previously hailed.
Guardiola praised Amorim earlier this year, calling him ‘one of the best’ in the game right now whilst marvelling at his quality.
That’s an exciting verdict and Amorim may well be in the mix for United – but Ten Hag will be looking to beat Fulham this weekend and calm those rumours down.
