Ruben Amorim spoke to the press this afternoon and provided an update on two of his central defenders, before Manchester United travel to Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United are hoping to make it four consecutive wins in the Premier League on Saturday.

In their most recent outing, United beat Brighton 4-2 as Matheus Cunha scored his first goal for the club. Bryan Mbeumo scored a brace, and Casemiro scored from distance thanks to a deflection.

The Red Devils can gain more momentum by beating Nottingham Forest, who recently appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager.

Dyche’s arrival means Forest will be looking for a ‘new manager bounce’ against United.

Amorim revealed on Thursday that he must wait a little longer to have a fully fit squad.

Ruben Amorim shares Lisandro Martinez update

United were handed a boost this week as Lisandro Martinez returned to first-team training at Carrington.

The World Cup winner has been out of action for almost nine months with a knee injury.

Amorim stressed that Martinez wants to play against Forest, but the centre-back is going to be eased back into action.

“He [Martinez] wants to go to this one, he is not going to this one, he is going to take time,” Amorim told reporters.

“He started training with us but we had to change some things in the exercise for him, so slowly he is going to get better.

“He is really good, he is really good, and he gives us that edge in every training session and that is also really good for us.”

United have missed Martinez’s presence in the team, and his return will likely see Luke Shaw lose his place. The England international has been a regular in Amorim’s back three, after missing most of last season through injury.

Harry Maguire is a doubt to face Nottingham Forest

The only other United player out injured is Harry Maguire.

Maguire has not played since scoring the winner in United’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

Amorim confirmed that the rest of the squad is available – excluding Martinez – but it sounds like they might run a late fitness test on the 32-year-old.

Amorim added: “The rest of the guys, we have one more day [of training], I don’t know about Harry Maguire. I think the rest is fit.”
