The Battle of Britain is set to be a huge occasion under the floodlights at Old Trafford when Manchester United take on Rangers.

Fresh off a fourth defeat in the last five home games, Manchester United will be hoping to get back to winning ways. The Reds suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday and remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Rangers, who sit second in the Scottish Premiership, visit Old Trafford, where they’ve never recorded a win. Celtic are leading the way in the Scottish top-flight, meaning The Gers are falling short of their expectations for this season.

The two teams are also in the same boat when it comes to the Europa League, needing wins in their remaining two matches to secure qualification for the round of 16 without needing a play-off.

United’s first team will be trying to avoid any further blows in what has been a disappointing campaign.

Ruben Amorim wary of Rangers threat

When asked about Rangers, Ruben Amorim made it clear he had done his homework on the opposition.

Amorim warned that Rangers like to get their full-backs into high positions.

The Portuguese coach also stressed how important the game is for United, with the Reds hoping to avoid the play-off round for a place in the knockout phase.

“The full-backs are really high and they have talent to score in the final third, so it’s one more difficult game and it’s important for us because we want to skip the Europa League play-off,” Amorim told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

The Rangers fans will make some noise, so we are prepared, and our fans will be prepared.”

Amorim feels Philippe Clement’s pain

Amorim is under severe pressure at United as they sit 14th in the Premier League table.

Ahead of a Europa League clash with Rangers, Amorim admitted he feels Philippe Clement’s pain at Rangers – because they’re both suffering at huge clubs.

The Ibrox gaffer has also faced scrutiny this season, with Rangers under-performing in the Scottish Premiership.

Amorim added: “It’s really hard when you’re at a massive club and Rangers have won a lot. I believe they’ve won the most titles in Europe.

“So it’s hard for any coach there. I hope to improve my team before they do, especially tomorrow! But I feel the pain of the Rangers coach.”
