Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne has announced it will be his final season at the Etihad ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby.

This weekend Manchester United and Manchester City lock horns in the Premier League.

Neither club have had much to boast about this season, with United sitting in the bottom half of the league table, while City are fifth – one point adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.

When the two teams met last, in December, United beat City 2-1 at the Etihad thanks to late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.

Amad, who scored the winner against City in the last derby, won’t be available for this match due to injury. The Ivorian has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury during a training session in January.

United go into the derby with several players out injured, including Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martinez.

Meanwhile, City have their problems too, with Erling Haaland ruled out for seven weeks.

Ruben Amorim makes joke after Kevin de Bruyne announcement

Ahead of the Manchester derby, Man City star Kevin de Bruyne announced he will be leaving the club in the summer.

It was not the news City fans wanted ahead of such an important game, but they won’t have De Bruyne at their disposal next season, which is good news for every other team in the Premier League.

City travel to Old Trafford on Sunday in what will be De Bruyne’s last Manchester derby.

Speaking to the press on Friday afternoon, Amorim was asked about De Bruyne’s announcement that he’ll be leaving the Etihad Stadium.

Amorim took time to appreciate De Bruyne’s career and made a joke about him playing for the wrong club in Manchester over the past 10 years.

Amorim told reporters: “He was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. The time passes for everyone, it’s a natural. He improved the league.

“He was on the wrong side of Manchester! It was a pleasure to see him in Portugal a lot of times. I hope he enjoys the rest of his life.”

Amorim will be attempting to repeat his first Manchester derby by beating City on Sunday.

De Bruyne record against Manchester United

After spending most of his career in England, De Bruyne has made 21 appearances against United, including one as a Chelsea player in 2013.

The rest of those appearances (20) were made as a City player – with the German being on the winning side on 10 occasions.

De Bruyne has also registered 9 goal contributions against United – all from his time at City as opposed to Chelsea.
