Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes pulled up with a rare injury during the defeat to Aston Villa.

Since his move to Manchester United in 2020, Bruno Fernandes’ injury record has been outstanding, with the Portuguese playmaker playing more minutes than any other player in Europe.

Who was the Man Utd man of the match in the defeat at Villa?

A positive performance despite the loss… who stood out for you?

Season after season, it seemed as though Bruno Fernandes was able to absorb the minutes into his legs and somehow avoid injury.

But during United’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, the 31-year-old pulled up with a hamstring injury and had to be replaced at half-time.

Bruno Fernandes injury update

Fernandes has started every Premier League match for United this season, only being taken off as a substitute late on against Chelsea and Liverpool.

He will be a huge miss if he is out of action, and Ruben Amorim was swiftly asked about his captain after the full-time whistle.

“It is a soft issue. I think he is going to lose some games, I don’t know for sure. I don’t know. We will see,” Amorim told Sky Sports.

“He can recover quite well, but I don’t know.”

United have six games in the next month, so Fernandes could be out of action during a hectic period of the calendar.

Man United still dominated without Bruno Fernandes

The only silver lining for Amorim is that United continued to impress at Villa Park even after Fernandes came off.

Lisandro Martinez starred in a deep defensive role, with Mason Mount, Manuel Ugarte and debutant Jack Fletcher all stepping into midfield.

Amorim has repeatedly explained that Kobbie Mainoo is competing with Fernandes for a starting spot, but the 20-year-old midfielder also suffered an injury that could sideline him for weeks.

Casemiro was suspended for the trip to Villa Park but he will return as an option for the Boxing Day fixture against Newcastle United.

It is up to Amorim to figure out how to make the midfield tick without Fernandes available.
