It has been a turbulent season in the Premier League for Manchester United and Tottenham, although both teams have secured a place in the Europa League final.
The two clubs went into the 2024/25 season aiming for a top-four finish, but they will both finish in the bottom half of the table.
That means winning the Europa League is crucial to both teams because they will have no European football next season otherwise. Even better, it’s a route into the prestigious Champions League.
A 1-0 win over Bodo/Glimt secured a 4-1 win on aggregate for Tottenham in the semi-final, whereas United skipped past Athletic Club after scoring seven goals in two legs and conceding just one.
It means the 2024/25 Europa League season will conclude with an all-English final at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain.

After poor domestic campaigns, United and Tottenham find themselves in the same boat.
A place in the Champions League will be on the line in two weeks when the two Premier League outfits clash in Bilbao.
Ruben Amorim’s side came from behind in the second leg to win 4-1, but after the match, he drew a comparison to his opposing manager ahead in the final.
United’s head coach also stressed that he is worried about picking up any more injuries ahead of the final.
Speaking to TNT Sports during a live broadcast after the match, Amorim said: “I’m just worried about the next game, trying to not get any injuries for the final. If we don’t win the final, it means nothing for us.
“We have to have a full squad [against Tottenham], stay in the game and have a bit of luck and we have to be clinical.
“It’s quite similar for me and Ange [Postecoglou]. It is a tough moment [for us both] and one of us is going to win. It’s going to be a big final and we will try to win.”
Amorim determined to give something back to United fans
It has been a difficult season for United fans, travelling far and wide to see the team struggle to win football matches.
The Europa League campaign has been a completely different story, with United the only unbeaten team remaining in the competition.
The Old Trafford faithful made it an extra special occasion with an incredible pre-match build-up containing plenty of atmosphere, pyrotechnics and a giant tifo displayed in front of Sir Alex Ferguson’s stand.
Amorim added: “It’s hard to describe what it’s like to be manager of this club and you want to give them [the fans] something because we were so disappointing in the Premier League. We want to give something to the fans.”
