Ruben Amorim dismisses Bournemouth’s poor form as Man Utd stars are told to take ‘responsibility’

Ruben Amorim has hailed Manchester United’s upcoming opponents, Bournemouth, ahead of the Premier League meeting on Monday night.

Manchester United fans will have to wait again to see their team in action due to the Premier League’s frustrating schedule, which often fails to consider the needs of supporters attending matches.

Even though United are not competing in Europe, the Red Devils will play their second Monday night fixture in a row when they host Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Last time out, United beat Wolves 4-1 at Molineux, but Ruben Amorim’s side is expecting a tougher challenge against Bournemouth.

The ultimate aim for Amorim is to continue United’s recent run of form, which has seen them lose just one of their last nine games.

There is a chance for United to get into the top four for the New Year, but that will require winning matches and depending on the results elsewhere.

Amorim was eager to talk about Bournemouth when asked about the press in the build-up to the game.

Although Bournemouth are positioned below United in the Premier League table, Amorim has warned his players not to underestimate their opponents, with admiration for their manager Andoni Iraola and star players.

“I think they are a top team, a top manager with a special player,” Amorim told reporters when asked about the challenge that awaits against Bournemouth.

Amorim has warned that United shouldn’t underestimate Bournemouth based on their recent results.

“I don’t look to the results. I look at the way they face every opponent, they press really strong, they are really direct in the game. They can play with different options in [the] front and that gives us a lot of options to work and to prepare the game.

“So I expect, again, a Premier League game that is really tough. But we need to win, especially at home. That is the goal.”

He added: “Special. I think the way they play the game like a big team, what he’s doing for some players. He’s improving some players and you can look at that team and look for several players that can play at a high level. And that is an amazing job by the manager.”

That is the ultimate praise for Iraola, who has been linked with the United job in the past. Amorim will be looking for his first win over the Bournemouth manager.

United have failed to win either of their last two Premier League games at home, against Everton and West Ham. Two frustrating results in games that we let slip away from us.

“Everyone knows that when you play at Old Trafford, all the responsibility is on us,” Amorim told ManUtd.com ahead of the match.

“So it’s a different game completely. So we have the responsibility of winning and playing well.

“[Bournemouth have] a lot of intensity, quality in the final third, [win] a lot of duels, and have quality on set-pieces also, so it’s one more Premier League game that we want to win, especially at home, to have that feeling of winning at home back. So it’s a big match on Monday.”
