Kobbie Mainoo faces a spell on the sidelines with an injury.
At the start of the 2024/25 season, Kobbie Mainoo’s progress was halted by a series of minor injuries. These were perhaps the result of a hectic debut season and a barely existent summer break.
In 2025/26, Kobbie Mainoo has been fully fit throughout, yet frustratingly, he has not been picked to start a single Premier League game, with head coach Ruben Amorim preferring other players.
Mainoo appeared to be in contention for a first league start in the game away to Aston Villa, with Casemiro suspended.

Now it has emerged following the release of United’s confirmed line-up, that Kobbie Mainoo is out of action with injury.
Mainoo suffered an injury in training 24 hours before the game, and Ruben Amorim says this does not appear to be a short-term problem.
Has Kobbie Mainoo played his last game for Manchester United this season?
Kobbie Mainoo was left out of the squad to face Aston Villa and Ruben Amorim confirmed he has suffered an injury that could last until the January window…
Ruben Amorim on Kobbie Mainoo
Ruben Amorim was quoted via Sky Sports that the full extent of Mainoo’s injury needs to be assessed.
Amorim explained: “He got an injury in the last training,.”After training, he went to the doctor. He got something in his calf.
“We are going to assess but he is out of this game.
“Of course (it is bad timing), not just for the team but for him to have this problem. These are reminders that we need to focus on everything we can control and leave the rest to the destiny.
“He is going to be fine in the few weeks, I think, I don’t know.
“Let’s focus on the players that we have and are ready to play.”
United face three away games in the next five over Christmas and the New Year
How many wins will we get from these matches?
Manchester United face busy run without Mainoo
Casemiro will return to face Newcastle on Boxing Day. But it certainly feels like United’s midfield options are now very stretched.
United essentially have three available midfielders, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes, and if Kobbie Mainoo is out until mid-to-late January, this stretches the team.
At a time when United are already without key players due to the AFCON and other injuries, the Red Devils face a battle to stand still.
The January transfer window could provide some help. A new midfielder was already required, and may have become more urgent.
