Ruben Amorim appreciates Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s showing of public support, but the Manchester United head coach is determined to get better results on the pitch.

Manchester United have endured a slow start to the 2025/26 season, winning just four of their first seven matches.

This leaves United positioned 10th in the Premier League, and they have already crashed out of the Carabao Cup following defeat to Grimsby Town in the second round.

Despite all of this, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is backing Ruben Amorim to turn things around at Old Trafford. The United co-owner wants to take a patient approach rather than rush into any reactionary decisions.

Reports still suggest that Amorim has four matches to show signs of improvement, or else his future will be cast in further doubt.

The next game for United is a trip to Liverpool, who have lost their previous three matches. That makes it an opportunity for Amorim’s side to gain momentum.

Ruben Amorim acknowledges Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s backing

Journalists were eager to ask Amorim about Ratcliffe’s backing during his first press conference since the October international break kicked off.

Ratcliffe’s support doesn’t change the fact that Amorim remains under significant pressure at Old Trafford. While there may be more clarity over his position, he has managed to pick up just 37 points in his 34 Premier League games in charge.

Amorim stressed that Ratcliffe’s support was not news to him because he receives frequent assurances from Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox.

“He [Ratcliffe] tells me all the time, sometimes with a message after the games but you know, I know and Jim knows that football is not like that,” Amorim told reporters.

“The most important thing is the next game. You cannot control the next day in football so I know that but it is really good to hear that also because of the noise. Omar and Jason tell me that all the time.”

The best-case scenario for United would be to follow this up with a win over Liverpool. There are not many better ways to gain momentum as a United team.

Amorim knows Ratcliffe’s backing means little if he doesn’t get better results from the team.

Ruben Amorim believes Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s clarity helps Man Utd fans

Amorim was keen to stress that he feels the support at United, but he sounds like a man who is well aware that the only way to repay that is by improving results and winning football matches.

The United head coach stressed that Ratcliffe’s recent interview will help fans because they will now understand that the club are taking a patient approach.

“First of all I can feel it, it is not just that thing that people talk [about],” Amorim added.

“I feel the support every day. Sometimes the pressure I put on myself and the team is often so much bigger than them. I know it is going to take a while but I don’t want to think like that, I said that last year. It is really good to hear that, I think it helps our fans understand that the leadership knows it will take a while but, at the same moment, I don’t like that because it will give a feeling like we have time to work things out so I don’t want that feeling here in our club.

“It is good to feel the support but we need to show people, at a big club, we are ready to win games.”
