Ruben Amorim breaks down key improvements Manchester United are making ahead of Bournemouth clash

Manchester United fans are watching each match to see if they can notice any early signs of improvement since Ruben Amorim took charge.

It has been a difficult start to the season for Manchester United fans, with the Reds remaining inconsistent and crashing out of the Carabao Cup in the quarter-finals.

The Carabao Cup was a trophy Erik ten Hag earned credit for winning in his first season as United manager.

Ruben Amorim is focused on improving United’s position in the Premier League. The only way to do that is by winning football matches like United did last weekend by beating Manchester City in the derby.

Results aren’t what they need to be just yet but fans are patient, knowing that it will take time for Amorim to implement his style of play with a squad that underperformed under Ten Hag.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and the same can be said about Amorim’s task at United.

Amorim has had a few bumps since becoming head coach, with one example being the league defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Reds turned things against Man City the following week.

Speaking ahead of United’s league match against Bournemouth, Amorim was asked about where he has seen improvements in the team since succeeding from Ten Hag.

“I think we are improving near the opponents’ box,” Amorim said. “We had some games that we are near the box, but without a real threat. You could see different things today [vs Tottenham] and you can see that we can shoot.

“We are near the goal and you feel it. You really feel it. I think it is a good thing in our team. I feel that our team is faster, are pressing more, the physicality is improving, the understanding of the game, and you can see it by the controlling of the game and you see it more.

“Especially in this game, but also in the last game [vs Man City]. We understand more [about] the position and the movement that we should do.

“So, there are a lot of things but, today, it’s hard to think of the good things. We are out. Let’s focus on the next competition.”

Beating Bournemouth will keep Premier League top four hopes alive

After the highs of the weekend’s Manchester derby win, United were brought back down to reality after being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham.

This means United can focus on the Premier League more because they need a winning run to climb up the table.

Otherwise, United will miss out on the race for the top four.

It bodes well that the teams above us aren’t consistent enough to run away with it. Amorim must ensure that United oversee Bournemouth and build on that result with a win over Wolves on Boxing Day.

A win on Sunday would be another boost for Amoroim because it could see the Reds climb above the Cherries in the table.
