Ruben Amorim takes charge of Manchester United for the first time today against Ipswich Town.

Amorim will field his first-ever United starting XI against The Tractor Boys, in what is an entirely new, exciting era around Old Trafford.

Amorim has a lot of big decisions to make, but baby steps. He, and Manchester United fans alike, will just be hoping that he kicks off his managerial stint with a victory.

The rest can be figured out in due time. However, Roy Keane has already identified what he thinks will be the Portuguese manager’s toughest task to conquer at the helm of the club.

Roy Keane outlines Ruben Amorim’s toughest task

Speaking just before the Southampton vs Liverpool clash on Sky Sports Football on Sunday afternoon, Kean told Amorim that his most difficult task as Manchester United manager will be to surpass the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League.

Keane said: “The challenge of sporting to Manchester United, to me, is chalk and cheese. You have to be same principles, but trying to get Manchester United competing back up with Man City and Liverpool, no doubt will be the biggest challenge he faces in his career.”

No manager since Sir Alex Ferguson has accomplished this, so we can see why it’s going to be a tall order for the Portuguese.

The step up is no doubt a daunting one, but given the immense reputation, Amorim comes to Old Trafford with. It sounds like if one man is up for the task – it’s got to be him.

Ruben Amorim must surpass all Manchester United managers before him

In order to conquer Keane’s challenge, the task is, in theory, simple. Amorim just has to better every single Manchester United gaffer before him. No pressure.

The closest to come to the likes of Liverpool and City was definitely Jose Mourinho, then it was Amorim’s predecessor, Erik ten Hag.
