Roy Keane has revealed that his son used to support a Premier League side that wasn’t Manchester United when he was younger.

When it comes to players that epitomise Manchester United, you don’t get much more legendary than that of Roy Keane.

Keane was arguably Manchester United’s greatest ever captain, and for that reason, is engraved in Old Trafford folklore forevermore.

Which is why it might come as a surprise to hear his son initially wasn’t a fan of the Red Devils.

Roy Keane says his son used to support Arsenal

Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League, Keane revealed that his son was, in fact, an Arsenal supporter.

He said, “My son, when he was really young, he supported Arsenal.

“I had to suck it up and look at the bigger picture. And as he got a bit older and a bit wiser, the penny dropped, and now he supports United.

“So he had to go down his own path, his own journey. He found a team he wanted to support and now… and yeah, thankfully it’s United.”

This, of course, must have hurt Keane, given his particularly fierce battles with Arsenal and their former players over the years.

Back in 2013, Roy told Today FM that Aidan supports Arsenal, before adding: “Hopefully when he grows up and gets a bit of sense, that will change.”

Thankfully, as Keane said, his son came to his senses and became a Red Devils fan.

Who is Roy Keane’s son?

Keane’s son is called Aidan, and certainly isn’t in the limelight as much as his father.

Quite recently, Aidan married his partner in a ceremony attended by their closest relatives, including his dad.

Keane shared a rare family photo on Instagram, posing with wife Theresa and the newlyweds. The former Man United man wrote: ‘Beautiful day celebrating my son and his wife.’

Aidan also plays football, just like his old man, although Roy claims he’s “not very good”.

In an interview in April 2023, Roy said: My young fella plays soccer now, he’s 17.“I think he plays like I do – he’s not very good but he runs around a lot.”

United will have to look for a competent midfielder elsewhere than in the Keane bloodline, it seems.
