Roy Keane reacts after seeing ‘ugly’ statistic about Ten Hag’s Manchester United

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has been left dismayed after seeing the Premier League away form since Erik ten Hag’s appointment.

United lost on Saturday evening, falling to a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

Anthony Gordon’s goal won it, but Newcastle could have been out of sight by half-time with United serving up a dreadful display.

That has cranked up the pressure on Erik ten Hag, especially after squandering a lead against Galatasaray in midweek.

Roy Keane comments on Manchester United away form

Sky Sports have now produced a graphic displaying United’s away form against top-nine sides since Ten Hag’s arrival in 2022.

The graphic does not make for good reading.

United have failed to win a single game in 11 attempts against the Premier League’s top nine sides from last season’s final table.

Included in that list is a 4-0 thrashing at Brentford, a 6-3 defeat at Manchester City and the infamous 7-0 humiliation at Liverpool.

Roy Keane was asked for his verdict on those results and he gave a typically blunt verdict.

The Irishman suggested that the graphic didn’t even look real with United claiming just one point from those 11 games.

Keane added that it looked ‘ugly’, especially with so many heavy defeats on the road, leaving Ten Hag under pressure.

“That doesn’t look real. Is that real? It looks ugly. That looks ugly!” said Keane. “The amount of goals – six at City, seven at Liverpool, four at Brentford… it’s not good, it’s not good. They’re obviously in a tough place and the manager is under pressure.”

Keane criticises United squad

Keane then commented on United’s defeat at Newcastle on Saturday and he seemed baffled by some of the names on show.

The former United skipper felt that some players involved would have been expected to leave the club over the summer.

Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay were heavily linked away from the club over the summer whilst Anthony Martial has outstayed his welcome.

Keane feels that United are going to the same names and faces again and again despite them not contributing enough in recent years.

Keane branded that ‘insanity’ and feels that the United squad just aren’t going to change their work ethic, which will lead to more defeats like Saturday.

“There were players who played last night for United and you thought they would have been leaving the club in the summer and you’re still going back to the same players who have been getting United nowhere fast over the last one or two years, so what is the sign of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. This group is not going to change. If they’re not going to work as hard as the opposition, then you’re in trouble – and they don’t,” he added.
