Roy Keane names one Man United player who should have offered more during win over Wigan

Roy Keane has named one Manchester United player that he wanted more from during the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United team have eased the pressure on the Dutchman with a rather comfortable 2-0 victory over their EFL League One opposition and have another favourable tie in the next round of the FA Cup with Newport County or Eastleigh awaiting them.

Goals from Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes were enough for victory in the end but the Red Devils certainly should have scored more goals on the night but were denied either by poor finishing or great goalkeeping.

Alejandro Garnacho continued his promising run of form from the right-hand side but the same could not be said of his partner on the opposite side Marcus Rashford.

Keane on United man who should have offered more

Speaking on ITV, former United captain Roy Keane believes that Rashford should have offered more for the Red Devils in an attacking sense and it’s hard to disagree with the ex-midfielder.

“I wanted a bit more. We were getting frustrated watching him,” Keane said at full-time. Rashford looked to have turned a corner after a promising performance against Aston Villa and a well-taken goal against Nottingham Forest but the Englishman struggled again.

Too often the Englishman tried to beat his man and cut the ball back but didn’t pick out any of his teammates so Wigan found it easy to deal with these attacks from the 26-year-old.

Rashford also seems to struggle with finding his strike partner Rasmus Hojlund and this was once again a big problem as there were two or three occasions where the square ball was on.

He did at least leave the game with an assist, with Diogo Dalot curling in a shot to open the scoring from his pass.

Rashford’s struggles

The drop-off from last season has been rather stark and fans have struggled to try and understand why that has been and there may well not be an answer.

At 26 years of age, the Englishman can’t keep having one season on fire and the next season back to being inconsistent, he is at an age now where he needs to be consistently brilliant and he just isn’t at the moment.

Dropping him is not an option because United have nobody else but fans have every right to be critical of one of the club’s top earners who is not doing enough on the pitch.
