During his 26 years as Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson passed on his incredible knowledge to many of his players.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now thriving at Besiktas in his first job since being sacked as United boss, while Ruud van Nistelrooy has struggled at Leicester City after a short stint as United’s caretaker manager.

However, one of Rooney’s strike partners at Old Trafford finds himself on a remarkable winning streak.

Robin van Persie chasing Champions League qualification

Robin van Persie once rejected a coaching role at United to focus on his own managerial career, and he is making brilliant progress.

After a short stint as Heerenveen manager, Van Persie was appointed as Feyenoord boss in February – the club he started his playing career at.

His impact has been immediate and Feyenoord have climbed to third in the Eredivisie table with six straight victories under Robin van Persie.

With four league games remaining, Feyenoord are now chasing a top-two finish in order to qualify for the Champions League.

Above Feyenoord is PSV, where Tyrell Malacia is on loan, and the two clubs are set to go head-to-head on May 11th in a crucial match in the race for Champions League football.

Robin van Persie and Ruben Amorim have the same aim

Van Persie could cap off a brilliant first season as Feyenoord coach if he is able to lead them to Champions League football next season.

That is the exact same target that Ruben Amorim is aiming for this season, although his conditions for success are slightly different.

There is huge pressure on Amorim to win the Europa League this season as it’s the only route back to the Champions League for Manchester United.

United are set to face Athletic Club in the Europa League semi-finals, with the first leg taking place in Bilbao on Thursday evening.

If both Van Persie and Amorim enjoy a strong end to the season, they could face each other in the Champions League next season.
