Erik ten Hag lifted his first Manchester United trophy at the first attempt as the Red Devils beat Newcastle 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final.

It was a clinical way to end United’s silverware drought, with the club’s previous trophy coming back in 2017.

Ten Hag was appointed last summer after leaving Ajax, and has quickly rejuvenated the whole club, making smart recruitment decisions and improving players.

United fans can’t quite believe how well it has gone. But we are loving it.

‘Best in the world’

Erik ten Hag is the envy of most clubs around the world, and former United trainee Robbie Savage says he is the very best.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Savage said: “Erik ten Hag is the best manager in world football.

“He’s galvanized this team on and off the pitch and they could win four trophies this season.”

Whether you agree with Savage or not, there probably is not a single manager in the world that you would swap Ten Hag for.

He won silverware at a prolific rate with Ajax, and while some may look down their nose at that, he has continued it in England.

While ‘just’ the Carabao Cup, Ten Hag is off to a great start at Manchester United. This trophy win comes just days after beating Barcelona in the Europa League.

Ten Hag will have to win the Premier League and Champions League to be widely regarded as ‘the best’, but you cannot put that past him.

United are even outsiders for the Premier League this season, and look set to qualify for the Champions League.

Give him another transfer window, and the team will be looking even stronger next season.
