Rio Ferdinand sends 11-point warning to Ruben Amorim as nervous Man United relegation point made

Manchester United’s remaining Premier League fixtures this season have sent Rio Ferdinand into a panic.

The Red Devils have only won two of their last nine Premier League matches, leaving them slumped in 15th place in the Premier League table.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Tottenham last time out and it now means Ruben Amorim’s side are closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top six.

Amorim warned United fans about relegation after losing to Newcastle United at the end of 2024, and the New Year has not brought any change of fortune for his side.

Amorim has stubbornly stuck to his tactics despite facing criticism. Reports have even claimed United players have questioned Amorim’s plan. But the Portuguese head coach will stick to his guns, even if it results in a nervous end to the campaign.

Rio Ferdinand fears over Man United fixture list

There are just 13 Premier League games remaining this season, with United next in action on Saturday afternoon against David Moyes’ Everton.

So far, United have only picked up 29 points in 25 games. Traditionally, teams need around 40 points to survive relegation and, unfortunately, that is now the goal for United this season.

But United legend Rio Ferdinand is worried that this current side may struggle to pick up the necessary 11 points needed in the next 13 games.

“Manchester United are absolutely struggling at the moment,” he said. “Only Wolves and West Ham separate my club from the relegation places. Do you realise we’re that close?

“Someone said we need 11 points just to stay up and I’m starting to think like that. I’ve got the fixture list here and I’m looking at the game and I’m being serious here. Go through it…

“Everton away, Ipswich at home, Arsenal, Forest away, Man City, Newcastle away, Wolves, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Leicester.”

Rio Ferdinand backs Man United to win just one game

In Amorim’s first 14 Premier League games, he has won just four times and suffered eight defeats.

United have only picked up 14 points – exactly one point per game on average. If that record continues, it suggests that the Red Devils may endure a nervy finish to the season.

After reviewing United’s fixture list, Ferdinand only backed his former side to beat one team. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City.

“The only place I potentially see us getting anything – and I’m not even saying a win – is Leicester. We’ve slapped up Leicester a couple of times already this season so we’ve got their number,” Ferdinand said.

“Normally you look at the fixture list and you can see where the points are coming from.

“We just looked at the fixture list and I’m not seeing outright wins, I’m not looking at it thinking there’s three points here and there’s three points there. That’s the problem.”
