Rio Ferdinand says Man Utd legend predicted Andre Onana penalty save

Manchester United fans, and probably Andre Onana, will still be riding high after the Champions League victory against Copenhagen.

The Red Devils got their first European win of the campaign, thanks to former club captain Harry Maguire stepping up with a big second-half header from a delightful Christian Eriksen cross.

But it was one piece of action that defied that of Maguires – our new Cameroonian shot-stopper’s finest moment in red.

He saved the last-minute penalty, gifting all three much-needed points to Manchester United.

Rio Ferdinand reveals legend predicted Andre Onana save

Taking to Twitter/X after the fixture, Rio Ferdinand actually revealed that Manchester United legend and former teammate Paul Scholes called the Onana stop.

‘Unreal scenes… Scholesy called it in the tunnel as we watched on!! Love it,’ Ferdinand wrote.

It’s nice to see that many have faith in the 27-year-old, including Scholes. He has had a ridiculously shakey start at United – and many believe this may be his turning point in red.

Ferdinand showed Onana love after the fixture

In a post-match interview, Ferdinand was seen heading up to Onana and congratulating him for his save.

The shot-stopper was beaming, and rightly so. He will finally feel he now has some recognition at Manchester United.

No one needed that more than Andre Onana, and we expect his performances to go from strength to strength as the season continues.

He now faces arguably his toughest test yet, as Manchester City head to Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, thanks to three wins in the space of a week and the dramatic scenes of Tuesday – United will likely be at their highest point mentally so far in this campaign.
