Matheus Cunha had the opportunity to address one key detail with Rio Ferdinand after the Manchester United summer signing arrived at Old Trafford from Wolves.

The 26-year-old Brazil international was the first major summer signing for Ruben Amorim after Manchester United’s disappointing 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

Matheus Cunha left Wolves and signed for United in June, with the Red Devils triggering the Brazilian’s release clause at the Molineux and paying a £62.5m fee.

The United star was able to feature on the pre-season tour of both Europe and the United States after his stunning blockbuster move to Old Trafford this summer.

Cunha has already been tipped to play a prominent role for United manager Ruben Amorim during the 2025-26 Premier League campaign at Old Trafford.

Rio Ferdinand spoke directly with ex-Wolves ace Matheus Cunha about one claim around the Man Utd summer signing

Rio Ferdinand was spotted around the Manchester United team during the US leg of the pre-season summer tour and he interacted with signing Matheus Cunha.

The 46-year-old former TNT Sports uploaded a new round-up vlog from his visit to the States amid shooting content with the Premier League club and United players.

Speaking to former Wolves ace Cunha in the video, Ferdinand asked: “Someone told me you speak different languages? How many languages [do] you speak?”

Responding to Ferdinand, Cunha admitted: “Five languages.”

Ferdinand was blown away by how many languages the Brazil and United forward could speak, with the United legend probing Cunha further on his revelation.

“Because when 18, I go direct to Switzerland,” Cunha explained.

Former United and England defender Ferdinand added: “Okay, so French.”

Matheus Cunha tells Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand every language that he can speak, including English

Cunha began his youth career at Brazilian outfit Coritiba before the United ace left his native homeland and completed a move to Swiss side Sion in 2017.

The former RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid attacker revealed to Ferdinand that his time in Switzerland introduced him to more languages, including Italian and German.

“Yeah, and then I didn’t speak English all the time,” Cunha said.

“So, I need to decide to speak the language of local and then I speak French. And my manager was Italian.

“Then I started to speak Italian and Switzerland [there are different languages and it] is Italian, French and German.”

Cunha made his Premier League debut for United on Sunday and the former Wolves star impressed with his performance in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford.
