Rio Ferdinand has revealed that a famed WhatsApp chat featuring one current first-team Manchester United player and past Red Devils players is “active constantly.”
The 46-year-old Manchester United legend called it time on his remarkable playing career in 2015 after a brief spell with Queens Park Rangers.
Rio Ferdinand spent the large majority of his prolific Red Devils spell under Sir Alex Ferguson and had a sensational impact during his time at Old Trafford.
The former United defender broke the British record transfer fee for the second time after the Red Devils signed him from Leeds United for a £30m transfer fee in 2002.
Ferdinand made 455 appearances for the Red Devils and the United legend was a key defensive figure in Sir Alex Ferguson’s legendary teams of the past.
During his spell at Old Trafford, the ex-United centre-back lifted six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and two League Cups under Ferguson.
Ferdinand, who struck up a remarkable defensive partnership with Nemanja Vidic at United, is widely considered one of the best Premier League defenders of all time.
Ferdinand talks ‘last person’ in WhatsApp chat
Rio Ferdinand linked up with Manchester United Women star Ella Toone for his YouTube channel and opened up about a famed WhatsApp chat.
The footballer-turned-pundit has hinted at the WhatsApp chat in the past and it features several of Ferdinand’s former United teammates.
Edwin van der Sar, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Patrice Evra are among the United alumni who are part of the WhatsApp chat, aptly named “Band of Brothers.”
Jonny Evans is the only current United player in the ‘Band of Brothers’ chat, with Ferdinand revealing that there is a lot of “hammering” on the Red Devils team.
According to Ferdinand, England and United legend Wayne Rooney was the “last person who spoke” in the WhatsApp chat.
“We hammer each other,” he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.
“It’s active constantly. ‘Wazza’ was the last person who spoke in there. It’s called ‘Band of Brothers.’
“I can’t tell you [Ella Toone] the next bit, it won’t make the cut. It’s just hammering the United team.
“Look, lads are just hammering them through the game. ‘He’s not good enough.’ I love it. It just keeps me connected to the lads.”
Ferdinand thinks Man Utd legend could leave chat
Ferdinand claimed that former United teammate Edwin van der Sar became a recent addition to the chat, but he thinks the Red Devils legend could soon “delete himself.”
“You’ve got the younger lads like Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and then there’s Nani and Anderson,” he added.
“You know who joined recently? Edwin van der Sar. I think he’s going to delete himself soon because the chat ain’t for him. I don’t think he knows how to send GIFs.
“Who else is in there? Jonny Evans is in there, who’s currently playing. Some of the stuff that goes on […].
“Patrice Evra gets mullered, hammered all the time. We hammer each other.”
